Important Things To Know About CSL RFID Reader

By Kevin Gray

Every company owner that has installed an RFID reader knows that its performance is critical in the daily running of the company. A failure in the system may cause the company to experience great loss as work will slow down and may even require the hiring of new employees to manually read and record tags on items. In light of this, it is important to know and understand the common factors that can negatively affect the performance of a CSL RFID reader.

Firstly, this technology has a wide scanning range. Unlike other systems like bar-coding that can only scan when the device is close, an RFID can easily pick up ID tags from a wider range and even through hindrances between the reader and the tag in some cases.

Secondly, this system has the ability to scan several items at once. For example, it is possible to scan incoming products in a box in your storeroom, letting you check all the con tents in the box simultaneously without running the barcodes of each item individually. Some systems are read-write, and this allows you to change or even add data.

Another advantage is seen in the speed of this system and its convenience. The fact that it has the ability to automatically read and scan tags in seconds is definitely mind-blowing. Optical scanners that need to be operated manually are slower as the operator must align the code on an item so as to scan it, so having an RFID scanner for your business will reduce the number of employees you need to hire for your business.

Apart from the application process, there are a couple of questions that should also be examined with regards to the RFID readers. For example, you should examine what tags that will be needed to read, including HF, LF or even UHF.

The reader antenna is also a factor that can affect this system. Sometimes, instead of using your antenna, you can implement the use of an external antenna which can greatly improve the performance of your system especially in reading range. Some factors to consider when purchasing an external antenna are polarization, antenna gain and beam angle.

Other systems emitting radio frequency as well Wi-Fi devices can impact your system negatively. This is because the signals from one wireless device may be received or transmitted by the other as valid data and this causes errors and diminished performance of your reading system. It is therefore advisable to ensure that there are no radio frequency emitting devices around when using this automatic system.

If your business or company is suffering because of theft, or is experiencing inefficiency during picking goods and packing them, installing this reading system should be a priority for you. Manufacturers suffer the most inefficiency and during the process of packing, but this need not be a problem anymore with an RFID reader.
